For the longest time, I was someone who liked to try new things for the sake of experience. If there was a new menu, I had to try it. If there was a new coffee shop in town, I had to visit it; if not, I would experiment with different coffee styles at my usual spot. But lately, I’ve found myself doing the same things. I only order a specific coffee from my usual coffee shop, eat at the same fast-food restaurant, and order the same meal. I wear the same outfits whenever I go out. Everything has become routine and boring.
I no longer chase the thrill of new experiences. I go to school, do my work, and go home, and repeat again the next day. While this routine gives me a sense of comfort, I know for a fact that I’m still 21 and there’s a lot left in the world for me to explore.
This isn’t the kind of story that wraps up with a neat lesson. It’s more of a realization—one that hit me out of nowhere. I’ve always lived life in pursuit of new things, but suddenly, I find myself coasting through the same motions every day.
It’s not that I want to abandon my love for iced coffee just for the sake of novelty. But maybe there’s a way to balance comfort with discovery. I could visit different cities and try their best iced coffees. Take a new route home. Stop by a place I’ve never been after school. Small changes, but they count.
Maybe that’s how I start breaking the routine—one small adventure at a time.
